About Worthshift

Worthshift is a small, independent set of calculators built to answer one practical question: should I take this job? Most people compare offers by comparing base salary, then find out months later that a longer commute, a weaker 401(k) match, or a pricier health plan quietly erased the raise. These tools put the whole package in one number so the comparison is honest.

Why it exists

Job decisions are usually made on gut feel and a single salary figure, because the real trade-offs are tedious to add up by hand. A raise of $8,000 can be worth less than your current job once you price a 45-minute commute, unpaid overtime, and a $200-a-month jump in health premiums. We wanted a fast, transparent way to see that before signing, not after.

How the calculators work

Each tool takes plain inputs — pay, bonus, employer retirement match, benefits, hours, PTO, commute time and cost, and work expenses — and turns them into an estimated annual value and an effective hourly rate that includes commute time. The methodology is deliberately simple and fully visible: every result screen shows the assumptions behind it, and there are no hidden weightings. Version 1 does not model federal or state income tax, because that depends on your whole financial picture; results are always labelled as pre-tax estimates for comparison, not advice.

Where a figure needs a reference point — per-mile vehicle upkeep, for example — we base it on published sources such as AAA's “Your Driving Costs” and note it on the page.

Independence and how it stays free

Worthshift is not affiliated with any employer, recruiter, or salary database, and nothing here is sponsored content. The site is funded by Google ads, which is what keeps every calculator free and free of a signup wall. We don't sell data, and advertisers never receive anything you type into a calculator.

Your privacy

There are no accounts and no server-side storage. Every calculation runs in your browser, and your inputs are saved only to your device's local storage so the tools remember them next time. Full detail is on the privacy page.

What it isn't

It isn't financial advice, a guarantee of what any employer will pay, or a substitute for talking to a qualified advisor about your situation. It's a structured way to think through a decision that's usually rushed.
