How this is calculated: for a salaried employee, PTO value ≈ your daily pay rate ($308) × your PTO days (15 days). This is paid time you receive without working — not extra cash on top of your salary. It matters most when comparing two offers with different PTO.

How it works

  1. 1

    Enter salary and schedule

Your salary, working days per week, and weeks per year set your daily pay rate.

  2. 2

    Add your PTO days

The number of paid days off you get — or realistically take — each year.

  3. 3

PTO value in dollars, as a share of salary, and your effective pay per day worked.

The methodology, in plain terms

For a salaried employee, PTO isn't a cash bonus — it's paid time you receive without working. A reasonable way to value it is your daily pay rate multiplied by the number of PTO days:

PTO value ≈ (annual salary ÷ working days per year) × PTO days

Working days per year is your working days per week times weeks per year (for example, 5 × 52 = 260). This figure is most useful when comparing two offers with different PTO, not as money you can spend.

Why it still matters

Because you're paid for every working day but only work the ones you're not on PTO, more paid days off raises what each day you actually work is worth. The calculator shows that as your effective pay per day worked.

Frequently asked questions

Is PTO the same as cash?

No. For a salaried role it's paid time you get without working, so we value it at your daily pay rate rather than treating it as extra income. It's a comparison aid, not spendable money.

How do I value PTO when comparing two jobs?

Estimate the value of each job's PTO with this tool, then treat the difference as one input among many in the Job Offer Comparison Calculator.

What if my PTO is 'unlimited'?

Use the number of days you'd realistically take — often 12–20. Unlimited PTO only has value if you actually use it.
